PREA Resources for Health Care Providers
NCCHC is playing a vital role in supporting correctional institutions in implementation and compliance with health care aspects of the Prison Rape Elimination Act with education, curriculum development and technical assistance. NCCHC was selected by the National PREA Resource Center for this role based on expertise in correctional health care standards, facility compliance and auditing.
In April, NCCHC pilot tested specialty training for medical and mental health care practitioners. The curriculum includes information on detecting and assessing signs of sexual abuse and harassment, the medical forensic examination and forensic evidence preservation; effective and professional responses and reporting.
In August 2013, the U.S. Department of Justice began auditing facilities to assure compliance with the Act. For technical assistance, health care practitioners should contact the PRC at www.prearesourcecenter.org.Notice of Federal Funding and Federal Disclaimer: This project was supported by Grant No. 2010--RP--BX--K001 awarded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
