New NCCHC Video on Careers in Correctional Nursing Highlights Benefits of Working in Our Field

The NCCHC Foundation is committed to fostering workforce development and attracting new entrants to the field. As part of this initiative, NCCHC and the NCCHC Foundation have published a new video, Careers in Correctional Nursing. The video was sponsored by a grant from Deborah Shelton, PhD, RN-C, CCHP.

The video was sent to 900 nursing school contacts and has already received 375 views. We have received this feedback:

“I am a nursing student at GSU set to graduate this December. I am writing you in response to a notification posted to the Georgia State University undergraduate nursing student resource center concerning the need for healthcare professionals in correctional institutions. In addition to being a nursing student, I am a former felon. I was both fortunate and lucky to have people help me break the cycle of recidivism in which I had trapped myself and reach this point in my life with a bright future ahead of me. In addition, I saw the need for healthcare providers in correctional facilities firsthand. This personal experience makes healthcare within the corrections industry a significant interest for me. I believe I have a responsibility to pay it forward as a part of my future career.” Nursing Student, Georgia State University

“Video is nicely done!  I have shared this with our students. Thank you for sending this – it’s a career option not often thought of.” Administrator, Avila University

“I have shared with our Associate Deans and Directors of our programs and they will share with students.” Administrator, Villanova University

The video is available below and is posted on NCCHC’s YouTube page and on our new Careers in Correctional Health Care page. We encourage everyone in the field to share on your individual and corporate social media and forward to your alumni network and universities/schools.

If individuals or companies would like to get involved, the NCCHC Foundation is seeking additional first-hand video or written accounts on the benefits of careers in correctional health care and assistance in promoting our video series. Contact [email protected] to participate.
