NCCHC Seeking Volunteers for Committee Participation

NCCHC is accepting applications from constituents who are interested in serving on one or more of the organization’s important committees. Successful candidates must be certified correctional health professionals (CCHPs). The committees listed below have openings for up to three people.

“We are excited to open the door to new perspectives and backgrounds,” says NCCHC CEO Deborah Ross, CCHP. “Our committees are critical to helping us achieve our mission of improving quality in correctional health care. Now more than ever, diverse views are so important.”

The application portal is open through this link. Applicants will be asked to upload a resume and provide information on why they are interested in the committee.

Applications will remain open until October 11, 2022. The NCCHC Board Chair will make the final selections after the NCCHC National Conference on Correctional Health Care. Notifications of acceptance will be made in December 2022.

CCHP – Mental Health Subcommittee (one-year term)
Advises the CCHP Board of Trustees on the following matters pertaining to the CCHP-Mental Health program:

• Item writing and item referencing
• Standard setting (passing grade level)
• Applicant eligibility requirements
• Certification review programs and products
• Recertification requirements
• Program marketing

Must be a CCHP-MH. Attendance at two meetings a year at the National and Spring Conferences is mandatory to remain on the committee.

CCHP-RN Subcommittee CCHP-RN Subcommittee (one-year term)
Advises the CCHP Board of Trustees on the following matters pertaining to the CCHP-RN (nursing) program:

• Item writing and item referencing
• Standard setting (passing grade level)
• Applicant eligibility requirements
• Certification review programs and products
• Recertification requirements
• Program marketing

Must be a CCHP-RN. Attendance at two meetings a year at the National and Spring Conferences is mandatory to remain on the committee.

NCCHC Education Committee (one-year term)
Responsible to the NCCHC Board of Representatives for the quality of NCCHC-sponsored educational activities.

• Identify educational needs of the correctional health care community
• Monitor the progress of education activities over the course of the year
• Evaluate conference abstracts for inclusion in NCCHC conferences

NCCHC Juvenile Health Committee (one-year term)
Advisory committee on issues affecting detained youth.

• Develop educational opportunities
• Provide juvenile health subject matter expertise to the other NCCHC committees and the Board of Representatives
• Provide subject matter experts or recommend experts to support NCCHC and NCCHC Resources projects regarding detained juveniles
• Liaise and coordinate with outside organizations with respect to NCCHC policy and technical documents pertaining to juvenile health

NCCHC Policy and Research Committee (one-year term)
Identifies needs and crafts official NCCHC positions and research activities for review by the NCCHC Governance Board.

• Develop and review NCCHC position statements
• Review and approve research activities that originate from external organizations
• Identify research activities (e.g., scientific grants) that further the interests of NCCHC
• Support the response to competitive research fund opportunities such as scientific grants

NCCHC Committee on Systemic Racism (one-year term)
Explores activities that NCCHC might undertake to tackle racism directed toward people involved in the justice system and mitigate the harms caused by racism. Note that NCCHC’s scope does not extend to pre-incarceration and, only to a small extent, to post-incarceration via discharge planning for continuity of care.

• Identify educational needs of the correctional health care community regarding racism
• Review how systemic racism leads to disproportionate criminal justice involvement among certain populations
• Identify inherent racism in the justice system

NCCHC Young Professionals Committee (one-year term)
Identifies educational needs of the young professional community. Must be younger than 46 years old.

• Develop ways to integrate young professionals from the public health sector into corrections
• Review the nominees for the annual Young Professional Award
• Recommend topics of interest to young professionals to the editor of the Journal of Correctional Health Care
