NCCHC, Supporting Organizations Speak Up Against Racism

For over 40 years, NCCHC has been guided by more than 30 supporting organizations representing leaders in the fields of health, mental health, law, and corrections. Today, we stand in solidarity with those organizations that are speaking out against the systemic racism and injustice that plagues our society and we call for equality. We support our black colleagues and constituents; doctors, nurses, and mental health professionals; and the disproportionate number of black men, women, and youth whom those correctional health professionals serve.

In the words of Georges Benjamin, MD, executive director of NCCHC supporting organization the American Public Health Association, racism is an ongoing public health crisis that needs our attention now. It is a core social determinant of health that contributes to health disparities and has far-reaching effects on health – physical, mental, and emotional.

NCCHC condemns racism and supports efforts to eradicate it and its harmful effects from society.
