How to Achieve Success as a Correctional Nurse Manager: A Four-Part Series

The Nurse Advisory Council of NCCHC’s Multidisciplinary Education Committee has developed a four-part series on correctional nurse manager development. Presented by correctional nurses acknowledged as experts in their field, the series is aimed at the novice correctional nurse manager as well as staff nurses whose next step in their career progression is that role. The presentations will introduce key concepts and skills necessary to become successful nurse managers. Topics will include:

  • Leadership and management
  • Human resources skills, including strategies for effective recruitment and retention, performance enhancement, and staff development
  • Key organizational elements of the intake process, the initial health assessment, nurse sick call, chronic disease management, medication management, infirmary care, ancillary services, and emergency care
  • Implementation, oversight, and monitoring of these critical service areas

Each session will provide time for questions. A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants who attend all four sessions and successfully complete a knowledge-based evaluation.
