All 50 states and the District of Columbia require the reporting of viral hepatitis; however, the laws vary in what they require health care providers to report to state and local health departments. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has prepared a spreadsheet that provides a comparative glance at the state reporting requirements for viral hepatitis. (The CDC points out that this is not a comprehensive analysis of all legal provisions relevant to viral hepatitis; it does not include measures implemented by counties, cities or other localities; and this information is subject to change.)
