Section F: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention |
P-F-01
Health Education and Promotion
(Important) |
Formerly
P-46
This important standard intends to educate patients in
self-care strategies while promoting healthy lifestyle
choices among the general population, and remains
basically the same. It addresses the need both for
individual patient instruction regarding health
conditions during clinical encounters, as well as more
general educational materials and opportunities for all
inmates. |
P-F-02
Nutrition and Medical Diets
(Important)
(Name change from "Diet" to better reflect
content of the standard.) |
Formerly
P-47
This important standard intends that the food served
contributes to the inmates’ overall health. It remains
basically the same. |
P-F-03
Exercise
(Important)
(Name change from "Recreational Exercise.") |
Formerly
P-48
An intent of this important standard is to improve the
inmates’ overall sense of well-being through exercise.
This standard remains basically the same and requires at
least one hour three times a week of out-of-cell
exercise. It explicitly indicates that in-cell exercise
does not meet the intent of the standard. |
P-F-04
Personal Hygiene
(Important) |
Formerly
P-49
An intent of this important standard is that all inmates
have the opportunity to maintain their personal hygiene.
While continuing to require that all inmates have the
opportunity to bathe daily, the standard now also
specifies that there will be a daily change of
underwear, change of clothing 3/week and change of linen
1/week. Required hygiene items remain the same. |
P-F-05
Use of Tobacco
(Important)
(Name change from "Smoke-Free Environment.") |
Formerly
P-50
This important standard intends that inmates, staff, and
visitors are not exposed to the detrimental effects of
tobacco products. It remains basically the same; smoking
is prohibited inside the prisons. Cessation and
abatement opportunities are to be available to inmates,
including nicotine replacement products when required
medically. |
