Health Education and Promotion

This important standard intends to educate patients in self-care strategies while promoting healthy lifestyle choices among the general population, and remains basically the same.
Y-F-02
Nutrition and Medical Diets

This important standard intends that the food served contributes to the juveniles’ overall health, and that health-related diets are given as ordered. It remains basically the same.

Exercise

An intent of this important standard is to improve the juveniles’ overall sense of well-being through exercise. This standard remains basically the same and requires at least one hour of out-of-cell exercise seven days a week.

Personal Hygiene

An intent of this important standard is that all juveniles have the opportunity to maintain their personal hygiene. It now requires that all juveniles have the opportunity to bathe daily, and specifies that there will be a daily change of underwear, change of clothing 3/week and change of linen 1/week. Required hygiene items remain the same.

Use of Tobacco

This important standard intends that juveniles, staff and visitors are not exposed to the detrimental effects of tobacco products. It remains basically the same; smoking is prohibited inside the facility for all;
juveniles are not to use tobacco in any form. Cessation and abatement opportunities are to be available.
